notes: from the website: Haiti Earthquake Emergency Wednesday, January 13th Haiti is in a state of emergency. On January 12, a 7.0 earthquake hit ten miles west of the country’s capital city, Port-au-Prince. An analyst at the U.S. Geological Survey said that “substantial damage and casualties are expected.” Damage is already obvious, with a collapsed hospital and houses that have tumbled into nearby ravines. Communication is nearly impossible, though we were able to speak with the country director, Mendelson Cesar, about thirty minutes after the earthquake. Since then, phone lines have been jammed and we are still waiting to hear the status of the children in our care. We will release that information as soon as we receive it. To the impoverished people of Haiti, who have already endured so much suffering, this type of natural disaster is nothing short of catastrophic. Please pray for them as they recover from the shock of this earthquake and begin to rebuild their lives. We are asking for your assistance as we provide this urgently needed relief. The people of Haiti are desperate right now. Please give whatever you can to our Emergency Relief Fund so that Childcare Worldwide can send aid right away. -> A Letter from our Haiti Director/ 1.27.10 Wednesday, January 27th Childcare Worldwide has been working hard to continue to deliver aid to Haiti earthquake victims in need. We recently received the following letter from Mendelson, our Director in Haiti, further detailing the aid work he has been directly involved in: Dear Childcare Worldwide, The aid you have sent has been a special blessing for the people of Haiti. Thank you so much for your quick response to the many needs we have. I’ve been able to prepare many food packages for families. These packages have been handed out in the cities of Port-au- Prince, Duval, Delmas, and Christ Revient to several hundred families. Food has been distributed to 2,000 people (approximately 400 families). These packages have been a huge blessing. The need for food and shelter will continue for a long time. Tarps have been given out to many families in need. Most families are currently living underneath shelters made of bed sheets tied together. From the suffering people in Haiti, I want to send Childcare Worldwide my sincere thanks for the generous support you have sent that is giving these people new hope. I know it is a sacrifice to give, so I send my deepest gratitude. Our goal is to help children survive amidst this disaster and we have already seen the hope that your help has brought these kids.
