Subject: Flood Support Done for now - thanks for the support
Date: Wed, 18 Apr 2007 14:24:10 -0700 (PDT)
We usually never send 2 emails in one week but we wanted to
let you know that for now, the shelter closed and things have
calmed down for now.
The sun is coming out on Friday and although the Boulevard
is still flooded and closed in sections with many houses under
water - to our knowledge people are all sheltered somewhere.
Kudos to the City of Lowell and their great handling of disaster
support and the water flow. Some parts of town are still under
water but the pumping and sandbagging sure helped from what we here
around town.
Thanks for the towels and toiletries. Please do keep those and
all furniture and home goods coming at your convenience. We do
still need them, but the crisis is over.
We have a large donation of 45 kitchen tables coming tomorrow
BUT HAVE NO KITCHEN CHAIRS! Kitchen chairs very welcome.

Valentines for Senior Citizens and Newborn Kit Projects!
This is the official launching of our Beds for Kids flagship program. All year we will do our best to raise awareness that there are too many kids sleeping on the floor for lack of a bed. We are very excited that several schools in Lowell are starting penny jars to raise the $75 to provide a bed for one of their own kids
We have given out more than 350 mattresses, cribs, bassinets and sleeper couches in the last 6 months and yet we still have more than 75 people waiting for them. We never seem to get ahead.
Big thanks to STONEHAM HIGH??? FOR THE 50 VOLUNTEERS THIS SATURDAY. ,
The Newborn baby kit project has taken off with a bang. Thanks to some great donations at Christmas we are assembling kits for needy newborns onsite now.
On average we give out about 50 newborn kits a month when we have them. Look for our ad about this project in the Community Values Magazine coming out soon. Furniture remains our number one wish.
Stop by Hannaford’s on RT. 38 and shop! We are their featured charity through February. Starting Feb 1 you will be able to purchase a $10 bag of newborn baby goods that will go to us. This program was very successful with Catholic Charitie's Food Bank.
TIP OF THE WEEK: Buy wholesale and stretch your charity dollars.
We know that many of you help lots of charities and other organizations so we want to pass on a tip about www.dollardays.com. Buy in bulk and always look for the free shipping deals to really stretch your dollars!

SPECIAL NOTICE - WE CAN NOT ACCEPT SECOND HAND TOYS (we just do not have the room or the wishes for them)
VOLUNTEER
PROGRAMMER to help us build a database and data entry system for Wishes. Must be good with SQL, PHP and html.
This would be a great college project for a student. We want to build and automatic wish entry system so that wishes can be placed online, information would go into a database and then we could be able to retrieve it online from the warehouse and query by various categories.
But we need a user friendly interface so the information has to be retrievable from the Internet.
WE NEED WISHMAKERS! Help give out the goods to caseworkers and clients. The best job you will ever love. 2 hours/week commitment. You pick the hours.
