8/17/06 UPDATE:
Per Becky clean up efforts are now once monthly:
Upcoming Katrina Krewe Clean Ups...
Saturday, August 26th...from 8:30-11:30am..clean up site will be posted by Mon. Aug 21st. Other Fall clean ups will be Saturdays, September 16th (9am to noon), October 21st, November 11th...from 8:30 -11:30am...sites will be announced a week prior to each clean up so that we can choose the areas where we can be most productive each time.
Please visit their website to see the amazing projects Katrina Krewe is involved in!
OLD NOTE:In spending time in New Orleans off and on for the past few months, things do
appear to be progressing...however, I know we are all growing weary of the
garbage we see dispersed through out the city.
The Krewe's goal is to go out every SATURDAY AND WEDNESDAY, FROM 9AM TO NOON, and bag trash along common thoroughfares around town. I am not referring to the large mounds which obviously have to be hauled off with machinery, but more to the random out of the window trash, and debris that has flown out of trucks and landed on the sides of roads and neutral grounds thru out the city.
Anyone interested in helping out, please sign up and come out to the areas which is posted weekly - http://www.cleanno.org . Please wear a sturdy set of gloves and bring a box of heavy duty garbage bags.
We can head out in groups to these areas to bag the trash and put it in piles, making it easier for the city to come pick up.
Let's all "pitch in" to make it a nicer place!!! Looking forward to getting "trashed" with all of you!!!!

mission: -> The Katrina Krewe is an all volunteer 501C3 organization that was established by Becky Zaheri, a stay at home mom, in November 2005 to provide relief from the trash and debris that resulted in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. The Krewe ultimately mobilized over 10,000 local, national and international volunteers to bag, and remove, over 250,000 tons of Katrina debris from the streets of New Orleans (testimonials). These pictures represent "the blood, sweat and tears" of recovery! Today, the streets are cleared of Katrina's trash, so the Krewe no longer hosts clean ups, however, we continue to foster anti-litter awareness among neighborhoods, schools and businesses in the New Orleans area through our "Keep it Klean!" public awareness campaign.
