Who We Are
We are a no-kill sanctuary for the unwanted. We have taken in animals that have been abused and abandoned in the desert here in the Antelope Valley where temperatures can rise to over 120 degrees in the summer and well below freezing in the winter. These animals have been dumped here in the desert without food, water, or shelter needed to survive.
Some of the animals you see at our rescue have been nursed back from horrendous treatment and are very timid but are surprisingly very kind and loving considering what they have been through. Our mission is to find loving homes for the ones who are able to go to homes where they will be members of your family. Some will never be able to leave due to the severe abuse they have been put through. Our hope and mission is to make these animals feel as safe, loved and comfortable as possible for the rest of their lives.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit group and we need as much help and support from the community as we can get. This entails volunteers and financial assistance. And we would like to thank you in advance for anything you can offer. All donations are tax deductible.
Donations
As a non-profit organization, we are SOLELY dependent upon your donations. We are in need of financial assistance to keep us going. All donations are tax deductible.
The greatest donation you can give at the moment is your time. Even just an hour or two to take a dog for a walk or play in the play yard. Maybe brush a few cats and give them some affection.
We are in great need of kitty litter, canned cat food, canned dog food (Pedigree preferred) and we always need dry dog food (Pedigree preferred) in small crunchy bites. Any requests that are brand specific are to keep the dogs on the same food to keep them from getting stomach problems from changes to their diet. Other items we need are dog and cat beds, igloo type dog houses, towels, blankets, and toys. Thank you for all your generous contributions.
Any one who is able to donate building supplies and/or labor to help with building kennels, Please call us. We need anyone with construction knowledge, plumbing, and electrical experience that can donate materials or labor. No donation is too small. Even the smallest donation can make the biggest difference to these animals.
Volunteers
Please call (661) 224-1421 or leave a message at (661) 406-2179 to become a
volunteer.
You can also send us an email at avdogandcatrescue@live.com with volunteer in the subject line.
We are a large rescue and need lots of help. We need help with everything from cleaning cages (no, you don't have to clean them all), to brushing, giving baths, walking and giving attention to any of our wonderful animals. We are also in need of volunteers to cover local events. Without enough volunteers, we will not be able to survive. Any help you can give with training, walking, feeding, grooming and just giving lots of LOVE is greatly appreciated.
The greatest gift you can give these animals is your time! Even just an hour or two will make a HUGE difference!
Sponsor a Pet Program
For Only $40.00 a month you can sponsor one of our awesome dogs. This money will buy: food, toys, treats and an Igloo (dog house). Come to our sanctuary and pick your animal or pick one from our newsletter. You will receive an 8x10 photo and quarterly updates on your dog.
Newsletter
Currently, our free newsletter is sent to over 300 people, if you would like to receive the newsletter please contact us. Also, if you would like to advertise your business in our newsletter, a business card size ad will run in 2 editions of our newsletter at the cost of $40.00.
If you are interested in receiving our newsletter or in advertising, please send us an email for more information at avdogandcatrescue@live.com
Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an application, a home check to assure you and our adoptees are safe and secure and an adoption fee (This fee covers the cost of spaying and neutering, and all necessary shots). Any other information will be provided by simply calling and asking. You can call our main rescue number at (661)224-1421 or you can leave a message for Vilma on her personal cell phone at (661)406-2179 and she will return your call as soon as possible.
Neutering and Spaying
Spaying and neutering saves more lives in the long run. All of our adoptees have been spayed and neutered and the cost is included in the adoption fee.
Found Animals
If you find a dog or a cat without a collar check with a local veterinarian or animal shelter to see if the animal has an implanted microchip. Also check the newspaper for lost and found ads. Some newspapers may allow a free found ad. Please place on to help reunite the animal with their family. The owner may check with the animal shelter for their pet. And this also works if you lose your pet. Some people are nice enough to hold pets and run ads so don't give up.
