MOUNTAIN DRIVE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION UPDATE
Greetings to you all,
March 25, 2009
Private Road Update: Great news! The working groups from the four "private roads" in the Mountain Drive community have reached an equitable agreement with the Fire Department regarding road upgrades. This is a very positive turn of events and we salute the road committee chairs and Montecito Fire as well. This process was an excellent example of community members working together to overcome obstacles to rebuilding after the fire.
Group Slab Recycling Is on hold! It now appears that the vast majority of homes can leave their slabs in place and either build around them or, in some cases, even reuse undamaged portions of their foundation. Many thanks to Coast Valley Testing, Mike Gones, Civil Engineer and Jeff Shelton for all of their work in determining the best approach to dealing with the old foundations!
Group Purchase of Building Materials
The MDCA is looking into helping to reduce the cost of reconstruction by putting together group purchases on building materials. If you are interested please contact us at mdcaarchitecture@gmail.com
Architecture Committee and Rebuild Committee
This committee is your staring point. Jeff Shelton has been working with local engineers and other architects. We are working on getting group rates for testing of foundations and septic systems. Please check with the Architectural Committee before moving forward. There is the potential for significant obstacles to rebuilding and they can offer assistance. We have a better chance of rebuilding the community if we do it as a community. The Committee is looking for photos of all Mountain Drive houses – pre-burn! – To establish a context for our newly completed architectural guidelines. Contact mdcaarchitecture @gmail.com.
Fundraising
As we move forward with our Tea Fire Assistance efforts we desperately need to raise funds to help provide survivors with the support they need to rebuild their lives. Please consider making a donation to the MDCA to help us facilitate the rebuilding process in the coming months.

Insurance: The MDCA is presenting an insurance workshop for the grossly under-insured on Saturday, April 11 at 10am at the Montecito Covenant Church. This
workshop is open to all Tea Fire Survivors who are under insured, ie: having
losses that exceed policy limits.
The purpose of this workshop is to explore the contributing factors that
resulted in being under-insured, review the options for remedy and to create
a community action group to address the problem with appropriate agencies.
We will be drawing on the vast experience of a respected insurance attorney
and insurance consumer advocate. Topics will include getting coverage
limits raised after a loss, your legal rights and responsibilities and the
what's really entailed in taking legal action. Please come prepared with a
concise history of your unique issues and be willing to participate at a
community level for your common benefit.
While open to all survivors, there will be no press, no cameras or recorders
and no outside agencies at this workshop. You must be on the Tea Fire
Registry's survivor list to gain entry.
Mountain Drive resident Steve McGlothen is providing legal and insurance assistance and is another great resource. Contact him at mdcalegal@gmail.com
