Notes:
9/09 from the website:
Many people want to volunteer in response to the fires burning in Los Angeles County. The most important thing you can do, however, is to not self-deploy to a fire-affected area, shelter, or other area where fire response or recovery is taking place. The situation remains unpredictable and extremely dangerous, and trained first-responders continue to struggle to get a handle on the fires.

Los Angeles County Fire Response
Now that firefighters and other emergency first-responders have contained the L.A. area fires, the long and challenging work of recovery in fire-affected areas has begun. Volunteer assistance is most often needed during the long-term recovery period after an incident takes place. L.A. Works, in partnership with the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles, have created a L.A. County Fire Response Team to be ready to respond to the need for volunteers during this period. Please join this team to be notified of how you can help when the call goes out for volunteers.

Volunteering with L.A. Works
L.A. Works offers a variety of ways for volunteers to get involved, whether for just a couple of hours or as an ongoing commitment to service. You must register and/or log in to sign up for projects.
Types of Volunteer Opportunities
Calendar Opportunities
If you only have a few hours, consider signing up for a one-time project on our volunteer calendar. Most of these projects take place on evenings during the week or during the day on the weekends and only require a few hours. The majority of these projects are managed by L.A. Works for our non-profit partners and are led by trained volunteer Project Leaders. Click the "SIGN ME UP" button and you'll receive confirmation and further information immediately via email.
Ongoing Opportunities
L.A. Works also lists ongoing opportunities for partner agencies needing volunteers on a long-term or ongoing basis. These opportunities are all referrals and have a "HAVE AGENCY CONTACT ME" button that you can click if you are interested. Partner agencies should respond to your inquiry within 72 hours with more information.
Long-Term Opportunities
L.A. Works also manages long-term opportunities such as "Let's Read" and "TeamWorks" that provide a richer, more cohesive volunteer experience for you and the agencies we work with. These projects happen periodically and are featured on our homepage when they occur.
Project Leadership
Are you interested in assuming a more active role in your community? If so, become an L.A. Works Project Leader and lead on an issue that you care deeply about! Find out about becoming a Project Leader.
Group Opportunities
L.A. Works makes it easy to create a club or family team. Click here to learn more about creating a volunteer team and signing it up for projects.
