The ReBuilding Center is a project of Our United Villages, a non-profit community enhancement organization. Developed
by dedicated volunteers, The ReBuilding Center is modeled after successful building material reuse centers throughout
North America (over 500 in the United States and Canada).
The ReBuilding Center opened to the public in 1998 and moved to a 24,000 square foot warehouse in 1999. By 2001,
five tons of materials were being kept out of the landfill each day! In 2005 The ReBuilding Center completed its
expansion project, adding 40,000 square feet of developed property and the potential to divert nearly ten tons of
construction and demolition waste per day by 2008.
The ReBuilding Center is a popular destination for homeowners, do-it-yourselfers, contractors, artists, and enthusiasts
interested in building with affordable, environmentally low impact materials. With an inventory that changes by the hour,
The ReBuilding Center is the largest non-profit used building materials resource in North America.
Contribute to the sustainability and health of our environment by diverting for reuse waste that would otherwise have been
discarded into landfills; Provide environmentally sound, affordable, quality used building and remodeling materials
to people of all income levels; Create livable-wage, local jobs for people of all backgrounds in an economically depressed area of our region;
Educate Oregonians about the environmental and community benefits
of diverting waste for reuse and recycling; and
Provide stable funding for Our United Villages' community enhancement work.
The ReBuilding Center plays an important role in the region's effort to maintain livable neighborhoods, preserve natural resources,
and reduce reusable materials from entering the wastestream. With widespread community support, The ReBuilding Center
diverts 4.5 million pounds of reusable building materials from entering our landfills each year.
Thank you for making The ReBuilding Center a vibrant resource that strengthens the environmental, economic, and social fabric
of local communities.
