Under the best of circumstances, the rebuilding of the community will take years, perhaps decades.
We are a non-gaming tribe and our financial position is insufficient to handle such a catastrophic event. Our tribe is in dire need of funds for our recovery process. Any assistance you can provide will be sincerely appreciated.

11/9/07 Update:
Spoke to Dist. Mgr. for Father Joe's Villages after referring needs
that the La Jolla Indian Reservation had this week. They just
delivered:
~8 tons of non-perishable food
~Sleeping Bags
~Air Mattresses w/pumps
~'Some' new/mostly used small lot of baby/newborn clothing
~They purchased tents and camp equipment for the many homeless people
living on the Reservation
~Hygiene Kits
~1 pallet of bottled juice
The situation is very bleak for many. There are both documented and undocumented homeless folks as a result of the fires camping out on
the Reservation. The needs will continue there for many months.
The Reservation residents are in the process of getting their FEMA
trailer but many of these other homeless folks do not qualify for aid/assistance through government agencies.
=====================================================================
11/6/07 Assessment completed with Calvin Rodriguez, Distribution Manager for Donations of Supplies & follow up w/Max 11/7/07:
~58 of 168 homes destroyed - Translates to approximately 300 people affected
The sister Res is Pechonga and they put up most of the Elders in their hotel casino, that deal ended today, but they are working on extending it because FEMA trailors are still "in insepction" - Max advises there have been many extensions and expects another one is in the works to provide shelter for the displaced
~They are set for plus sized clothes
~They are set for batteries (98% of electricity has been restored)
~They are set for Diapers & Wipes (Red Cross is supplying)
~They are set for Canned Food
~They are set for Water
~URGENT need for AIR PURIFIERS. They've not been able to secure donations for them. Many kids have Asthma and the air quality with all the ash is hard on the elders and babies as well. 98% of the Reservation is burned and it literally looks like you are walking on the moon. Many displaced families are seeking alternate living situations currently due to the health concerns and there are many newborns.
~11/3/07 So. Baptist Convention brought in 40-50 volunteers, along with heavy equipment. Debris removal is going at a good clip and they will finish the job
Most Urgent supply needs currently:
Air Purifiers
Baby/Newborn Clothing
Baby Newborn items (NO DIAPERS OR WIPES!)
Dry Dog/Cat Food
Metal Feeding Bowls for Animals

NORTH COUNTY: The La Jolla Indian reservation, one of the hardest
hit by the Poomacha fire, is accepting donations of batteries,
hoses, clothing, shoes, canned goods and gift cards to discount
stores.
We're having a problem right now with shoes,” said Calvin Rodriguez,
who is organizing efforts at the tribe's gym on Sengme Oaks Road off
state Route 76 near Palomar Mountain.
Also, much of the donated clothes the tribe has received are too
small, he said. “Most of our people are pretty big,” he said.

The La Jolla band is also working with the San Diego Foundation,
which has set up a relief fund for Indian tribes. More information
is available at www.sdfoundation.org/fire2007.
Also, the San Diego Humane Society announced yesterday that it would
deliver more than 22 tons of hay for the reservation's horses and
cattle, which were feeding on pastures that burned. – O.S.
-> Poomacha Fire Donation Information:
As a result of the Poomacha Fire, which began on October 23 on the La Jolla Indian Reservation over 9,000 acres of the reservation land was burned, with extensive loss of oak and wildlife. 55 of our homes were destroyed and approximately 30 homes suffered smoke damage. Over 180 tribal members were left homeless. The electricity and telephone service has been restored on most parts of the reservation. The water system experienced numerous breakages and needs extensive repairs.
Under the best of circumstances, the rebuilding of the community will take years, perhaps decades.

Many families are seeking alternate living situations currently due to the health concerns and there are many newborns.
~They are okay for batteries now and 98% of the electricity on the Res has been restored.
~Last Sat. the So. Baptist Convention (which I heard was asking for 500 volunteers) had 40-50 volunteers, along with heavy equipment. Debris removal is going at a good clip and he was satisfied with it (although he doesn't have direct knowledge).
~There is one road in and one road out of the Res they really do not have an emergency store of supplies. He wants to get some storage units out there in the event they lose power or have any future disasters that holds generators, food stores, first-aid supplies, etc. Enough for at least one week will be needed.
~I will be speaking with the Tribe Council Secretary for additional assessment and answers Calvin could not supply.
Most Urgent supply needs currently:
Air Purifiers
Baby/Newborn Clothing
Baby Newborn supplies
Generators
First-Aid Kits/Supplies
Non-perishable food stock for the coming mos. of recovery
NEED TO ASK ABOUT WATER!
