10:30 p.m. Facebook update 7/29/10 - CROWN FIRE:
Leslie spoke with Jay Weiner from Gentle Barn tonight. He has a very large trailer at the ready and advised both the Brittany Foundation & Villalobos are safe for now.
A lot of our guests from the fires went home today, it was definitely bitter sweet. We are grateful that our own horses are back in our barn, but we miss them already. Morning Star looked much more alive than when she came in. We also made a lot of r...ecommendations, so hopefully her people are going to continue what we were doing. It was such an honor to be part of her journey!
This morning six fire evacuees settle in at The Gentle Barn. One of them was recently rescued by Animal Acres and is in poor shape. we will not only give them refuge from the fire until they can return home, but we will continue their rehabilitation ...as if they were still home. Animal Acres took all of us in two years ago when we had to flee the fires, we are grateful to return the favor to them.
Per Jay Weiner at the Gentle Barn Foundation, he is able to help transport any kind of livestock, horses, pets, no matter how easy or difficult they are to handle. They are highly experienced in handling difficult animals in trauma.
They are currently on standby to take on any evacuated pets/livestock/horses as the Station Wildfire is moving in their direction, but are on call to assist with transport once their own danger passes.
They can accept up to 50 corralled horses or 16 individually stalled horses.

We want to assure everyone that The Gentle Barn is no longer
in danger of the Agua Dolce fires, it came close but the wind turned at the
last minute. Our hearts go out to the people and animals north of us. We have
been contacted by the animal shelters and other organizations who have asked
for our help should they need us, so we will be ...up all night ready to go with
our horse trailer at a moments notice. We will keep you posted.

mission:
The Gentle Barn is a non profit 501(c)3 corporation. It was founded in 1999 by Ellie R. Laks and is now run by Ellie and her partner Jay Weiner. Ellie and Jay had similar childhoods where they both felt alone, unseen and missunderstood. For both of them it was from animals that they recieved their attention, freindship, and unconditional love. Having been saved by animals it was their dream to have a place that allows children to be supported and healed by animals like they had been. Ellie and Jay live on the property with their three children.
Ellie and Jay see thier 60 rescued farm animals as teachers, healers, friends and heros. Every animal at their place has been rescued from horrible abuse, neglect, and loneliness, and yet they have all survived using forgiveness, trust, love, and courage. These are the qualities that Ellie and Jay strive for on a daily basis, and that they teach the children that visit The Gentle Barn.

The Gentle Barn Foundation in Santa Clarita need help moving their rescued animals back to their home once the evac orders have been lifted.
If you have equipment, and time to assist please contact Jay at:
(661) 600-2132.
All their animal food is on site and they cannot get to it, so currently they need livestock/domestic animal food URGENTLY.
Financial donations are URGENTLY needed to help repair their facility. They lost fences, many shelter roofs and a fire truck accidentally ran over their propane line.
So anyone that can volunteer to fix the propane line would be greatly appreciated as well as a Plumber.

LTel: This facility is on stand-by with Santa Ana winds kicking in tonight and lasting through Sat. afternoon 11/3/07. Per Desray, the Office Assistant they are at the ready and have all their volunteer registry info at hand in the event of evacuation. I put myself on their list of standby animal transport volunteers for crated animals today. They've secured a Welder to repair their downed steel fencing for animals.

LTel: Spoke with Jay early a.m. 10/23/07. I have agreed to assist transporting crated animals in my Durango when the evac order are lifted. I've also got a call to Marlene (Animal Rescue lady extraordinaire) and believe her rescue group can assist possibly with trailors for horses/livestock. Anthony Nuncio of Pet-A-Medic coordinated with Jay after I emailed him the craigs post. He'll be assisting in a big way as well.
This truly is an amazing organization and Jay is absolutely wonderful and doing miraculous work with animals/kids/people who need healing.
Schlene and I are working on monetary donations to help pay for the gas/trnasport costs and repairs of the facility. They have $25,000 in damage from the winds/fire.

-> The Gentle Barn Foundation in Santa Clarita need help moving their rescued animals back to their home once the evac orders have been lifted.
So anyone that can volunteer to fix the propane line would be greatly appreciated as well as a Plumber.

mission: -> The Gentle Barn is a non profit 501(c)3 corporation.
Ellie and Jay see thier 60 rescued farm animals as teachers, healers, freinds and heros. Every animal at their place has been rescued from horrible abuse, neglect, and loneliness, and yet they have all survived using forgiveness, trust, love, and courage. These are the qualities that Ellie and Jay strive for on a daily basis, and that they teach the children that visit The Gentle Barn.
