4-H is the Extension system's dynamic, non-formal, educational program for today's young people. The program combines the cooperative efforts of youth, volunteer leaders, state land-grant universities, federal-state-local governments, and the US Department of Agriculture. The mission of the Extension System in conducting 4-H programs is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society.
The 4-H Youth program strives to improve the quality of life for Mississippi youth by developing youth potential and by providing "hands-on" (experiential) educational programs. Program priorities identified include leadership development, life skills training, developing positive self-esteem, and empowering volunteers. Programs are delivered through local county Extension offices to volunteer leaders.
