VOA North Alabama is now part of Volunteers of America Southeast
Volunteers of America Southeast is an affiliate of Volunteers of America, a national, non-profit, spiritually-based organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Through thousands of human service programs, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 million people in over 400 communities.
Since 1896, our ministry of service has supported and empowered America’s most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart … and ultimately the spirit … of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services.
Our Southeast affiliate is just one of 38 affiliates of Volunteers of America, chartered by our national office in Alexandria, Virginia. Our corporate office is headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, with other offices in outlying communities.
2011 brings about changes and new beginnings for Volunteers of America Southeast. There has been a consolidation of Volunteers of America North Alabama with that of Volunteers of America Southeast. This will afford us the opportunity to work together and to expand our services to improve the quality throughout the state of Alabama. The people we serve will benefit greatly, and we extend a warm welcome to the employees who will now be a part of Volunteers of America Southeast.
Volunteers of America Southeast serves Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Our programs are diverse from one town to the next. We have been demonstrating that “there are no limits to caring” since October, 1980.

Volunteers of America was founded in 1896 by Christian social reformers Maud and Ballington Booth. They envisioned a spiritual movement in the United States in which devotion to God and country could be expressed through service to one's fellow man. Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, spiritually based organization providing local human service programs and opportunities for individual and community involvement.
Volunteers of America Southeast, Inc., is a chartered member of the national Volunteers of America. Volunteers of America of South Alabama began in November 1980, with three group homes, and by June, 1998, was ranked in the top five of Volunteers of America chartered corporations.
Volunteers of America of Georgia began providing services in January, 1995. Volunteers of America of Georgia provides Supported Independent Living Services for individuals with chronic mental illness. The Supported Independent Living Program provides 24-hour supervision, support, training and transportation. These programs are funded through contracts with Community Service Boards and Regional Boards throughout the State of Georgia. For more information on Volunteers of America Georgia, please call our Griffin office at (770) 229-2825.
In 1999 a corporate restructuring occurred creating Volunteers of America Southeast, Inc., incorporating Greater Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Today the Southeast affiliate has grown to be the second largest affiliate of the 39 affiliates of Volunteers of America.
Volunteers of America, Southeast, Inc. and its subsidiary corporations provide services in several broad program areas. Our mission is realized through the work of over 600 staff and more than 100 community lay-people.
Now in our second century of service, Volunteers of America is one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive human services organizations, touching the lives of nearly 1.8 million people each year in communities across the United States.
