Feed the Children, Inc has partnered with Catholic Charities USA to deliver and help distribute 5 truckloads of food, personal care and other items to in-need families impacted by the oil spill along the coastal areas of Louisiana. Feed the Children, Inc is also assessing the opportunities for similar types of product deliveries in and around the area of Gulfport, Mississippi.
The information below was compiled by the Diocesan Office of Long Term Recovery, DOLTR, in Gulfport in order to give you a brief overview of what you can expect if you decide to volunteer to assist the Hurricane Recovery Efforts in Mississippi. Unlike New Orleans, which is still very much in need of volunteers to gut and clean homes, Mississippi has moved into the rebuilding phase and is in need of skilled volunteers to hang drywall as well as to do electrical and plumbing work.
The Diocesan Office of Long Term Recovery leases the Dedeaux Retreat House from Sacred Heart Parish to house our volunteers.
Your help in this area is greatly appreciated. The people of Mississippi are so thankful and amazed at the help and donations we have received from so many volunteers across the country. We have over 65,000 homes destroyed or severely damaged with so many of our clients are in FEMA trailers. Our Diocesan Office Of Long Term Recovery has over 2700 active case files. With the help of volunteers like you, we have worked on over 900 homes.
