The Salvation Army operates a Volunteer Village which is available to all faith-based agencies working disaster relief in the Biloxi, Mississippi area.
The village, constructed under the bleachers of The Yankie Football Stadium, provides heated and air-conditioned dorm rooms for up to 100 volunteers. Each room sleeps 8 – 12, in oversized bunk-beds. Bathrooms are very conveniently located – indoors. And the showers provide plenty of hot water.
Three meals a day are served to all the volunteers; provided by Salvation Army cooks who are on staff full time. Salvation Army staff run the facility to provide a safe and comfortable environment that promotes interaction and new friendships between groups.
Recovery and build out following Hurricane Katrina, for the Gulf
States, will take many years, and thousands upon thousands of
volunteers. This is the hope for recovery. Your group can be a part
of this hope.
Your church or faith-based relief team may be looking for an
opportunity to serve. Project TeamWork could be the answer. Contact
our Director of Disaster Relief, Jim Green, for more information.

Short-Term Mission Groups
The Village is designed for faith-based relief work groups only; sorry, no individuals.
All groups must have a responsible leader, and some skilled
participants. Youth groups must have a 1 to 4 chaperone/student
ratio. And volunteers must be 16 years of age or older. NO
CHILDREN. Alcohol, drugs, smoking or tobacco use is prohibited.
Group leaders can book their team with Project TeamWork for a one
or two week stay. With the basics taken care, leaders are free to
focus on the mission out in the field. For more information about
booking your group, our group leader's application has all the
information you need and can be downloaded from the volunteer
application page.
Every team member (including the group leader) must fill out a team
member application and must register through their group leader.
Church groups, mission teams, youth groups, and faith-based disaster
teams call the Salvation Army Volunteer Village one of the best ever.
Come and see for yourself.
Project TeamWork partners with The Salvation Army to provide this
unique mission experience. Because both are Christian organizations,
the environment of the Volunteer Village supports those beliefs,
values and behaviors. You may visit The Salvation Army website for
information about serving directly with them.
