IRT is procuring intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and other medicines to combat the cholera outbreak in Haiti . IRT has already made a commitment to acquire more than $1.3 million in urgently needed medicines to be sent immediately to Haiti for use by in-country partners treating cholera victims.
Medical Teams: IRT medical volunteers recently returned from Haiti where they worked at the General Hospital (the largest in Port-au-Prince) providing emergency procedures. The team included 4 emergency room physicians and one ER nurse - all experienced in disaster relief.
Shelter: We are shipping 1,240 large family tents to Haiti to be used for families needing temporary shelter in the Petit Goave area, west of Port-au-Prince.
Food: We are airlifting more than 100,000 meals of shelf-life stable food to Haiti to assist in feeding displaced families.
Medicines/Medical Supplies: We initially sent more than $160,000 in medicines and supplies to support the first wave of medical teams entering Haiti. We have also ordered more than $1million in medicines and supplies that will be sent to the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad, whose members are working at the General Hospital in Port-Au-Prince.
Hygiene: We are preparing to airlift 1,000 hygiene kits for displaced families. Kits are now being assembled in South Florida for airlift from Miami.
