Notes:
ARKS New England is a newly formed volunteer coalition-building
relief organization currently working in the Greater Boston area
and beyond to help expedite the relief efforts for those people -
both hurricane survivors and volunteers - who are finding
navigating the post-relief efforts across the country difficult.
Many are getting lost in the shuffle. We aim to connect the
generous people, churches, businesses, and individuals of the
Northeast with those who need their help the most.
So many have lost everything and cannot even fathom how to
relocate themselves, whether that's for short-term or long-term
shelter. The states and national organizations like the Red Cross
are overwhelmed, so it is up to the citizens of the country to rise
up and lend a helping hand.
Finding Help
We're putting together the coalition and resources as we speak,
but since so many need immediate assistance, we hit the ground
running and are looking for urgent funding to help bring those
still in makeshift shelters to a safe place where there is room
for finding work, getting children into schools, and getting away
from the stress of living for weeks or months in crowded shelters.
If you are a Katrina survivor or a group in the Gulf area working
with survivors, and are experiencing difficulty with the overworked
systems that might not be meeting your immediate needs, please email
Katrina at: Kit159@aol.com
Becoming an ARKS Volunteer
We need volunteers with all sorts of experience, or even no
experience, who want to help and don't know where to turn.
Right now, all these requests are going through Katrina
(Kit159@aol.com) as well, though we are looking specifically
for people to coordinate the following: volunteers, donated goods,
and fundraising/accounting.
Fundraising
We need cash donations! In the very near future, we will also be
organizing the work of getting clothing, food, and goods donations
to our new neighbors. A good way to start is to join our neighbor
ring, meet everyone else, and list your skills or items you'd be
willing to lend a survivor. If you or your group, church, or
business want to donate, please contact Katrina at Kit159@aol.com
for more details.
