Update per call to Becky Ladner, Asst. Superintendant for Bay St. Louis/Waveland Schools
notes: UPDATE via call to Becky Ladner/Asst. Superintendant for
Hancock County Schools (4/25/07):
Insurance monies/FEMA covered most of their need for 800
computers they required. They can always use them but they
are not an urgent need at this point. Musical instruments
needs for their bands have been fulfilled as well.
They are still operating out of 79-80 portable classrooms and
have NOT started re-building at this point.
The primary current need is for monetary donations for their
Summer Camp that will run 5/29-7/20/07.
The children of Hancock County have nothing to do as even a
movie is an hour each way with the bridge still out. The beaches
are dangerous to play on as this was the hardest hit area.
The goal is to provide them with entertainment (volunteers would
be great) and field trips. They have been able to hire a Dance
Teacher but no other activities are organized yet for the kids.
They have a grant that will cover salaries for teachers (but no
other funds for activities yet). The program will accept up to
450 kids and they have 389 enrolled now. They will not turn any
children away.
