The South Bay Communities Alliance, Inc. (SBCA), was organized early
last year by volunteer citizens of Mon Louis, Alabama Port, Delta
Port, Heron Bay, Coden, etc., to aid Katrina victims of incorporated
areas of South Mobile County. Since inception, SBCA has received
(Grant's) to purchase and construct a 7,500 SF "Coastal Community
Center" at (P.O. Box 112) 7385 Hwy. 188, Coden, AL 36523. Computer
and language skills courses will soon be offered to the public.
The facility is designated a disaster response center. Citizen
participation encouraged.

We are all citizens who love our communities and our
county but who realize that because we do not have
"self rule", we must organize in order to ensure we
have a "presence and voice" in community concerns.

South Mobile County is a beautiful and
historical area with many unique qualities.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it
became clear there was a tremendous
need to organize in order to protect our
communities and to aid in the recovery
process. There are other issues and
events occurring that need to be addressed
as a group to include the oil and gas
industry's efforts to establish an industrial
"hub" of operations as well as developers
planning new construction. We must
address these issues and have input on
growth in our area to include zoning and
planning, and preservation of our historical
and cultural resources.

18 months after Hurricane Katrina, our
communities continue to struggle for
recovery with many issues and problems
still before us.

ORGANIZED BY AND FOR CITIZENS IN UNINCORPORATED SOUTH MOBILE
COUNTY COMMUNITIES TO ENSURE REPRESENTATION IN PUBLIC MATTERS,
PRIVATE CONCERNS AND TO ENSURE MAXIMUM OPPORTUNITIES,
PARTICIPATION, SAFETY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH AS AFFORDED ALL CITIZENS
IN MOBILE AND OTHER INCORPORATED TOWNS.

SOUTH BAY COMMUNITIES ALLIANCE HAS A TIRELESS AND GENEROUS
VOLUNTEER MEMBERSHIP WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE OUR QUALITY
OF LIFE IN THIS STORM-RAVAGED AREA, ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL AND
HEALTH ISSUES, AND LOBBY FOR ASSISTANCE FROM OTHER AGENCIES AND
GROUPS TO REACH RECOVERY GOALS.

SOUTH BAY COMMUNITIES ALLIANCE WAS FORMED AND INCORPORATED IN
EARLY 2006. WE ARE PRESENTLY WORKING WITH LEGAL SERVICES ALABAMA
IN APPLYING FOR OUR NON-PROFIT 501(c)(3) STATUS.

SOUTH BAY COMMUNITIES WISH TO THANK COMMISSIONER MIKE DEAN FOR
HIS SUPPORT. HE HAS LISTENED TO OUR NEEDS, ATTENDED OUR MEETINGS
AND RESPONDED WITH ACTION. WE ESPECIALLY ARE GRATEFUL FOR HIS
ASSISTANCE IN OUR SEARCH FOR A NEW "HOME" FOR OUR COMMUNITY
CENTER WHICH WOULD BE LARGE ENOUGH FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE
GROWTH. WE ALSO THANK THE MOBILE COUNTY COMMMISSION FOR
RECOGNIZING THE SPECIAL NEEDS CREATED FROM HURRICANE KATRINA.
