In the wake of the recent hurricane, The Jesse Tree has provided services to nearly 2,000 evacuees. We are providing access to the internet for FEMA applications, a special resource guide for evacuees hyperlinked with all necessary applications and websites; cold water, juice and snacks, bagged lunches, food boxes, hygiene kits, laundry detergent, gasoline vouchers, assistance in locating shelter and housing, clothing and furnishing and on-going case-management. Skills Jesse Tree volunteers must be kind, compassionate, at-ease and patient with elderly, sick or people in distress. Bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers are a big help. Professional skills and clerical skills are needed, as well as people who can lift heavy items (wheelchairs, food boxes, etc) and people who can help manage large events (such as the Food Fairs). Volunteers are trained and greatly appreciated. Virtually every program or project of The Jesse Tree is made possible because of volunteer efforts.
