The Edmundite Missions serve people living in central Alabama, called the Black Belt, for its rich soil and agricultural heritage. It is the poorest region of the state. Per-capita income in Black Belt counties averaged $15,000 in the 1990s, compared to $20,000 for the rest of the state.

**Food Kitchens and Food Pantries -
Nutrition Centers, house deliveries etc.

**Health Care -
The Missions work alongside Sisters, who serve the poor and uninsured in rural health care. Outreach ministers in five communities help pay for medicine and doctor fees and provide transportation to specialists.

Catholic Social Ministry, Selma, provides health care services to homebound seniors and assists the poor in obtaining medical services with prescription assistance, doctor fees and transportation to specialists in Montgomery and Birmingham. The Ministry also supervises free monthly blood pressure screenings at the Bosco Food Kitchen.

**Housing & clothing -
housing repairs provided to poor families and frail elders in communities of rural Alabama served by the Missions.

**Elder Care -
provides special programs for seniors in each community it serves. Outreach workers in rural communities also make house calls, visit the sick, provide food and medicine, and help meet needs for seniors to stay in their homes.

**Education -
Believing youth is the future, Edmundite Missions provide scholarships each year to qualifying young men and women to pursue a college education.
