CAN is an unprecedented, multi-organizational partnership among some of the nations leading nonprofit disaster relief organizations.
Working in tandem with state and local relief agencies CAN is forging a new model of disaster recovery and preparedness for the United States.
That is why seven leading organizations came together to form the Coordinated Assistance Network, or CAN. CAN partners participate in community-led preparedness and response coalitions that focus on ways to best apply resources to most effectively serve those in need.
CAN works within these coalitions to develop innovative solutions that make tangible improvements in the way that relief and recovery services are provided to individuals and communities as a whole.

Terra's comment: CAN has become the central resource for coordinating survivor case management information. It helps reduce duplicated case management effort, and helps prevent abuse of the recovery system. By having information about which grants a survivor has already recieved from FEMA and large grant orgs like UMCOR, Catholic Charities, Red Cross etc, the case manager can better prioritize cases based on need. It is, however, a private system, that requires special access, to be granted by authorities. Many county and state level disaster managers have chosen to use the systes. Some have not.
