Fuel Assistance programs in Fall River and Taunton ~ Assists
eligible households pay their heating bills during the winter
season or until all benefits are exhausted. Clients receive
various discounts such as telephone discounts, electric
discounts, and gas and oil discounts. Eligibility is based on
annual gross household income, family size and annual heat
consumption. Income guidelines are established by the federal
government. Clients must document a minimum of four consecutive
weeks of income or any number not to exceed the prior 52 weeks.
Proof of residence is required for all new applicants. Social
Security numbers are required of all household members over
18 years of age.
Heating Assistance Program (Heart WAP)
(508) 675-2157 Ext. 135
Provides homeowners and some tenants with repairs and
replacement of heating systems. The program operates
in the Greater Fall River, Greater New Bedford and Greater
Taunton areas. People who meet the federal income
eligibility guidelines or households who meet state
eligibility criteria which applies to the elderly,
handicapped and households with children under six
years of age. A tenant must be on Fuel Assistance to
receive minor service. The landlord must also be on
Fuel Assistance for the tenant to receive major service.
Proof of income and ownership is required. The owner is
required to sign an agreement allowing the heating system
to be evaluated and where warranted, repairs or replacement
to be conducted.
Weatherization Assistance Program
Provides insulation, air sealing and storm windows at no cost
to homeowner or tenant. The program operates in the Greater
Fall River and Greater New Bedford areas. The program serves
people who meet the federal income eligibility. Interested
people should contact the WAP office at 675-2157 Ext. 133.
